Freedom Tower

I pissed off a lot of people to take this photo. As a New Yorker I pride myself for moving through the incessant flow of foot traffic like a Balanchine dancer. But taking photos of the city means getting in the way, sometimes. Standing in the dead center of the crosswalk my body diverts the flow of displeased morning ants as I protect the image of the Freedom Tower in the puddle like a UNESCO site.

There is a man who cannot look up. His eyes fixed on the ground like a human metal detector. He directs me to see the splendor at my feet. These photos are for him.
